Teach Me Your Ways

Devotional 1 Minute

Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, that I may honor you. With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever. Psalm 86:11-12

I can remember many times in school that I simply learned something long enough to pass the tests. I had many tricks like silly little sayings and acrostics. Whatever worked. But when I read this scripture, all I can think is that I don’t want to learn it just for a moment.

I want to truly learn Your ways and seek Your truth each day, Lord. To live in a way that points others to You rather than living selfishly for my own desires.

I want to have a pure heart. A heart that always seeks You. A heart that doesn’t cling to negative attitudes, but honors You with every thought, word, and action.

I want to begin each day praising You, my Lord, and glorifying Your name for the rest of my days because of the great love You have for me. Because of Your forgiveness and my salvation!

Like Jonah, I have spent a good bit of time in the belly of the whale. I understand what made Jonah run from God’s plan for his life, but I have also learned the joy of obedience. No experience compares to the time I spent running from God calling me to write, but many blessings have followed since I yielded to His will. In 2 Corinthians 12:9 God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God doesn’t expect us to be perfect, just willing! My days are filled with spending as much time as possible with my family, teaching middle school, playing piano for worship services, teaching a ladies’ Bible study, writing devotionals, and making homemade cinnamon rolls when I have the energy.
