Let This be My Story

Devotional 2 Minutes

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you – Deuteronomy 31:6.

What if I were able to live out this verse through every circumstance of my life? To be strong and courageous because no matter what happens the Lord my God will be with me. To never be afraid because I fully trust that He will never leave me.

Recently I’ve had a few nightmares in which I am being chased. In one dream, my life was in grave danger, yet as I was hiding, I was singing the chorus of “Blessed Assurance” which says:

This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, praising my savior all the day long.

I awoke in awe of the peace that I felt as I sang this chorus in a nightmare which caused such distress. I was totally trusting God in that moment! I want this to be my song each and every day. I want to be able to praise Him no matter how scary the moment, no matter how weak I feel, no matter what comes my way. I want to be strong because I fully believe that He is with me. Let this be my story!

Scriptures about STRENGTH:

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him. Exodus 15:2

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

He gives strength to the weary and strengthens the powerless. Isaiah 40:29

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever. Psalms 73:26

The Lord is faithful; He will strengthen and guard you from the evil one. 2 Thessalonians 3:3

Like Jonah, I have spent a good bit of time in the belly of the whale. I understand what made Jonah run from God’s plan for his life, but I have also learned the joy of obedience. No experience compares to the time I spent running from God calling me to write, but many blessings have followed since I yielded to His will. In 2 Corinthians 12:9 God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God doesn’t expect us to be perfect, just willing! My days are filled with spending as much time as possible with my family, teaching middle school, playing piano for worship services, teaching a ladies’ Bible study, writing devotionals, and making homemade cinnamon rolls when I have the energy.
