ABC’s of Renewal

If you have ever helped out with Vacation Bible School, you may have heard of the ABCs of Salvation which is a simple way to share the Roman Road scriptures with children. But were these scriptures written only for leading us to Christ or is there some purpose they serve after salvation?

Let’s consider the ABCs of Renewal which focus on renewing our relationship with God.

  • A –ACCEPT – Accept that you have sinned.  It is often difficult to admit to yourself that you’ve made a mistake, but Romans 3:23 says, “For all     have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”   Let’s face it, even after becoming a Christian we sin.  As hard as we may try to be perfect, it won’t happen in this lifetime because we are human.  The first step in renewal is to stop beating yourself up and accept that you’ve sinned.
  • B – BELIEVE –Believe that God desires a relationship with you in spite of your sin.  “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8) He didn’t wait for you to clean up your act, but instead died for you knowing that you aren’t perfect, and yet He did it anyway because He loves you so much.  As Christians, we can rejoice in believing that when we fall into the sins of our past, our relationship with Him can be reconciled or renewed.  We must believe that God loves us enough to forgive us even when we      commit the same sin as yesterday and the day before.
  • C – CONFESS – The final step in renewing our relationship with God is to confess our sin to Him. “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).  As a Christian, you’ve already been saved, but confessing those current sins saves you from the guilt which causes you to feel distanced from our Heavenly Father.  Don’t let pride stand between you and a renewed relationship with God.  Confess your sins and get a fresh start!

Salvation-Simple-as-ABC

“For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!  Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation (Romans 5:10-11).
