He Walks with Me

Today, as I walked my 7th grade students back to class, I was thrilled to get to see two of my grandchildren as they walked from other buildings. As I waved across the playground to them,  two of my 7th graders got to see their Mimis. As we continued walking back to class, I thought to myself what a blessing it is to work in a small school where many of us can see our children and grandchildren periodically throughout the week, and those students can regularly see someone at school that knows them personally and loves them dearly.

This made me think of how God personally knows and loves each of us. We don’t have to hope that we can catch a glimpse of Him across the way occasionally or spend a moment with Him here and there.  Instead,  He is with us through every moment of every day. He doesn’t just love us on the good days when we look and act our best. He is with us, and loves us through it all. The good. The bad. The ugly. No matter what our day consists of, we can know beyond any doubt that He is right there with us.

I am reminded of the chorus of the song “In the Garden”.

He walks with me, and He talks with me,

And He tells me I am His own,

And the joy we share as we tarry there,

None other has ever known.

It was such a joy to unexpectedly see my grandkids today, but it’s an even greater joy to consider that Jesus walks with me every single day and tells me that I am His own! Unfortunately, I often take His presence for granted which means I also forget about His unconditional love and that He truly knows me.Thankfully, there are many scriptures that remind us of these things.

He knows you better than you or anyone else knows you.

  • Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up; You understand my thoughts from afar. Psalms 139:-2
  • Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you. Jeremiah 1:5

He is with you always.

  • When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭2‬-‭3‬
  • Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand. ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭41‬:‭10‬ ‭
  •  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭20‬ ‭

He loves you. Oh, how he loves you.

  • But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
  • See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children — and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn’t know him. 1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬ ‭
  • For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭38‬-‭39‬ ‭
  • For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. ‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭

Never forget that He knows you, yet He willingly gave His life so that you can have the gift of eternal life, and He is with you through it all. I am so thankful that He walks with me and talks with me and tells me that I am His own!
