This is Temporary

There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for awhile. These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold – and your faith is far more precious to a God than mere gold. So if your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. 1 Peter 1:6-7

Things may be difficult as you’re going through trials, but this scripture promises that trials are temporary. God doesn’t send trials to break you, but instead He allows them in order to make your faith in Him stronger.

When you feel frustrated by the trials in your life, remember that there will be wonderful joy again, so lean on Him and wait expectantly for that joy. Believe that this is temporary and your faith is more precious than gold.

Like Jonah, I have spent a good bit of time in the belly of the whale. I understand what made Jonah run from God’s plan for his life, but I have also learned the joy of obedience. No experience compares to the time I spent running from God calling me to write, but many blessings have followed since I yielded to His will. In 2 Corinthians 12:9 God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God doesn’t expect us to be perfect, just willing! My days are filled with spending as much time as possible with my family, teaching middle school, playing piano for worship services, teaching a ladies’ Bible study, writing devotionals, and making homemade cinnamon rolls when I have the energy.

  1. I recently purchased a copy of the classic devotional book, Streams in the Desert, by L. B. Cowman. She wrote, “It is commonly thought that a protected and easy life is the best way to live. Yet the lives of all the noblest and strongest people prove exactly the opposite and that hardship is the making of the person. It is the factor that distinguishes between merely existing and living a vigorous life” (p. 30-31). Part of the joy we experience at the end of trial is the realization we’ve changed–for the better, and our faith is stronger, just as you’ve said, Tresa!

      I have that same book, and I even have notes marked on that exact devotional! I actually purchased it for my uncle who was very ill with Lupus. He was never physically able to read it, so it is now mine. Little did I know when I searched for the perfect book that I would receive a diagnosis of Lupus after his death.

      2. Thanks Nancy! It’s been a slow, frustrating process, but things are finally going well most of the time. I’m thankful that God sent me to the right doctors. Thanks for the prayer.
